HMP Lindholme

Type of inspection: Full inspection

Dates of inspection: 1–11 June 2026

Summary of findings: The widespread availability of drugs continued to be a big problem at HMP Lindholme and had contributed to at least one death since the previous inspection. There were not enough places in education and work, access to health care was not good enough, and many prisoners were frustrated at the lack of opportunity to progress in their sentence. The cleanliness of some wings and inadequate resources for the substantial increase in the number of men being released were also not good enough.

Points to note: Despite considerable operational pressure, including increased population churn, the governor had brought stability to the prison, set clear expectations for staff, and had improved communication with prisoners.
