Reports published 15 September

Type of inspection: full inspection

Dates of inspection: 2–12 June 2025

Summary of findings: New prisoners were not allocated to work, training or education activities quickly enough. Some health care areas did not meet infection prevention standards and mentally unwell prisoners waited too long to be transferred to community mental health units. Prisoners on remand were neither assessed properly on arrival nor reviewed as they approached release. Just over half of the men lived in overcrowded conditions.

Points to note: The prison had taken action to reduce the ingress of illegal drugs and was making good use of peer mentors to support prisoners. Industries and work activities were helping prisoners develop employability-boosting skills.
