Sumayyah Hassan
Sumayyah is one of our prison inspectors. While she inspects all types of prison, she is part of the team which leads on women’s custody. She also sits on the Respect and Purposeful Activity forums and the Equality and Diversity Advisory Group.
Ian Dickens
Ian has worked as an inspector since January 2016. Before that, he was an operational prison manager in roles across both the private and public sector for 23 years. Much of his experience was in the high-security estate.
Joe Simmonds
Joe joined the Inspectorate as a research officer in November 2012. He is now one of two Senior Research Officers, working with a team who go into each prison at the start of an inspection to hand out and collect questionnaires from prisoners.
Shaun Thomson
Shaun joined HMI Prisons in November 2018 as a Health and Social Care Inspector. He is a registered mental health nurse and worked in the NHS for 24 years in a variety of clinical and managerial roles, working extensively with patients in acute mental health crisis.
